Performance Analysis of a Biodiesel-Fired Engine for Cogeneration

The continuous demand to reduce both the pollutant emissions and greenhouse gas (GHG) is increasing use of alternative fuels as biodiesel in direct-injection compression ignition engines under combined heat power (CHP) configuration. Although has different thermophysical properties compared standard diesel, it can be used without significant modifications. However, pure biodiesel/diesel blends provide performance combustion characteristics with respect diesel engine. In order estimate behaviour a micro-CHP system fuelled biodiesel, zero dimensional (0D) numerical model was development. This based on single zone predicts blend-fired engine at full partial load terms electrical efficiency, thermal efficiency specific fuel consumption. Notwithstanding blend reveals lower electric efficiencies, CHP systems preserving environmental sustainability avoiding modifications architecture.
